ABC A Family Alphabet Book was my first book, illustrated by my friend Desiree Rappa and her husband Brian and published in 2001 by Two Lives Publishing. For many years, as I read through virtually every picture book that was published for children, I wished for a book that portrayed children and their gay or lesbian parents doing everyday family activities together - not an "issue" book to teach kids what it was like to have a gay or lesbian parent, but a book that would show, in words and pictures, the fun and loving home life of these families. This is that book!
123 A Family Counting Book, illustrated by Danamarie Hosler, was a natural companion to ABC. When I was working on the first book, my friend and creative companion Sally Lindsay helped me decide which words would go with which letters in the alphabet, so I knew I could "count" on her to help me with this book, too. She did a great job, and then we decided to start a publishing company (Two Lives) to make sure we could get these books into the hands of all the kids who wanted to see them. So all of a sudden, I was not only an author, but an editor, art director and publisher as well! Very exciting.
I have ideas for lots more books, so as soon as I can steal some time from being a webmaster, publisher, editor, art director, and consultant, I'll get busy working on them! |
